At long last, for the second time in a row!---
Another really encouraging win for the Pirates, and it caps (no pun intended) off a darn good day for the organization, with the draft looking initially pretty successful (have you heard of Pedro Alvarez yet? No, he didn't play in this game, if you're wondering)
-------
Paul Maholm was the other star tonight--try 8 innings in less than 90 pitches! Paul gave up 3 runs (2 earned) and was masterful with the art of the ground ball out after the first two innings. A really good start for Paul, and he solidifies the startling (but encouraging at the same time) fact that our back 3 starting pitchers are our 3 best starters right now. If Snell and Gorzo get it together, the Bucs' rotation--the same one with the NL's worst ERA--could become one of the best in the league. Really.
------------
As for offense, JR pushed the right buttons by inserting Michaels and giving Nady a day off. Jason nailed a 3-run bomb in the first (his second homer in 2 AB's--remember the first?) and another Jason you may have heard of pounded a tie-breaking triple to deep center in the 5th. Paul would make that lead stand up, and Matt Capps got through a scary ninth.
-----Pirates take the series, move to 29-31, and finish 11-11 in IN-FIGHTING!!! (22 game stretch of intra-divisional warfare). The DBacks are next tomorrow and they're bringing in some pretty good pitchers this weekend....
-------------
AND......IT'S OFFICIAL NOW ON THE JR POSTGAME CONFERENCE:
The Bucs will re-activate Ryan Doumit and send Ronny Paulino to AAA--effective tomorrow. YAY!
